Job Summary

Responsibilities

Provides computer support by troubleshooting and correcting problems with computer hardware, networking, or software applications. Involves working with multiple operating systems including Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, and Android. May install and upgrade computer hardware of various kinds and software applications and packages including MS Office, Adobe, and various math/scientific packages. Helps backup department computer systems on scheduled intervals, implement anti-virus and security strategies, and manage wired and wireless networking. The incumbant should demonstrate a strong commitment to service, with a willingness to troubleshoot and serve as a help desk resource, PC maintenance technician, and Network Technician for assigned areas.
  • Extensive experience with MS Windows operating system, including Active Directory.
  • Broad knowledge of computer systems including Mac OS, iOS, Linux, and Android
  • Knowledge of wireless and wired networking basics including various addressing, switching, and routing principles.
  • Experience with various remote management, imaging, and installation software.
  • Broad experience with installation and support of various software packages including MS Office, Adobe and preferably experimental and math packages like Mathematica, MatLab, Maple, LabView, Origin.
  • Experience implementing anti-virus and backup schema for data protection and restoration.
  • Experience with shared network resources including data, scanners, printers, and the like.
  • General experience troubleshooting IT problems with hardware, software, networking and implementing solutions.
  • Background/experience in programming languages a bonus.
  • Background in science and mathematics a bonus for understanding faculty/dept. needs.
Willingness to work as a team with other staff and faculty to solve IT problems.

Willingness to learn new things.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) with at least 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
