Description
The Paul Meek Library at the University of Tennessee at Martin is accepting applications for a Copy Cataloger/Stack Maintenance staff member in the Technical Services department of the Paul Meek Library. Under the general direction of the Team Leader of Support Services, this position is responsible for copy cataloging, stack maintenance and inventory, bindery/repairing materials, and assists in supervising student assistants and facilitating work-flows in the department.

Essential Job Functions

Copy Cataloging
• Perform high level copy cataloging of new materials.
• Downloads MARC bibliographic records from OCLC into Connexion edits, and imports into the integration library system.
• Enhance MARC records following AAACR2 and LC subject headings.
• Update library holdings.
• Overlay government document record from OCLC into Connexion.
• Create a holding record and item record for the bibliographic record.
• Assign loan type, material type, location, and other parameters to the item.
• Edit bibliographic and/or item records in the integrated library system with coding to suppress records from displaying and to withdraw from the collection.
• Verifies work of student assistants that process withdrawn materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

Stack Maintenance
• Responsible for pulling materials identified as: collection review projects; materials to be weeded; or damaged materials.
• Responsible for shifting library print collections to make additional space within the building or within a specific collection or subject area.
• Update stack signage to reflect new call number ranges in stacks.
• Inventory the print collection.
• Run queries on materials not inventoried and search for missing and/or lost materials.

Book Repair
• Separate books needing repairs to maintain categories based on type of repairs.
• Train student assistants on book repair processes.
• Maintain equipment and order supplies as needed.
• Process items for in-house bindery.

Support Services
• Assist with hiring, training, directing, and evaluating student assistants in stack maintenance responsibilities.
• Organize work-flows for materials in various stages of being weeded.
• Separate damaged materials for in-house bindery or notify acquisitions of need to replace; label materials accordingly.
• Pick up mail from campus mail services office and distribute to appropriate departments; including books, journals, supplies and invoices.
• Serve as back-up student supervisor for the Team Leader.
• Assist with student assistant schedules and time sheets.


Qualifications :

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School diploma and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 1-2 years of library copy cataloging experience.
• 1-2 years of library experience.
• 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
• 1-2 years of inventory experience.
• Knowledge of library automated functions and the LC Classification System.
• Detail oriented and meticulous in applying standards to the work.
