Job Description Summary
The Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I) is seeking up to two Innovation Managers to manage research and innovation initiatives executed across the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Founded at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, PC3I is embedded at the nexus of research and practice. Our mission is to create, test, and scale solutions to improve how we care for patients with cancer. We bring together diverse experts to improve health outcomes, increase healthcare efficiency, reduce cost growth, and apply the latest science to make cancer care better for our patients, providers, community, and partners.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

The Innovation Manager role contributes to the strategic development of PC3I's portfolio by planning and implementing projects to develop, test, and scale new solutions to improve cancer care. Projects may come from a variety of sources, including from the federal government, private foundations, internal Penn sources, clinical partners, and others. The Innovation Manager will join an interdisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians, administrators, and technical personnel with deep experience in their fields. This is an ideal position for an individual seeking experience in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and exposure to cutting edge research in cancer care innovation.

Innovation Manager B:

Works mostly independently in consultation with PC3I leadership and in partnership with project principal investigators.
Manages multiple projects of varying complexity, responsible for day-to-day work and progress towards milestones.
Contributes significantly to proposal efforts (writing, reviewing, coordinating, etc.)
With minimal direction, develops and maintains appropriate project documentation (project plans, budgets, protocols, workflows, standard operating procedures, etc.).
Manages staff as part of project-specific teams; may also have direct reports.
Provides feedback on the development of project-specific tools for the PC3I community.

Innovation Manager C (Senior Innovation Manager):

Works independently with oversight from PC3I leadership and in partnership with project principal investigators.
Oversees a portfolio of complex projects, responsible for both long-term management and day-to-day oversight.
Spearheads proposal efforts (writing, reviewing, coordinating, creating budgets, etc).
Independently develops and maintains appropriate project documentation (project plans, budgets, protocols, workflows, standard operating procedures, etc.); refines existing tools and proposes new ones as necessary.
Manage staff, both as part of project-specific teams and as direct reports.
Provide important subject matter expertise to the PC3I community regarding project management, research projects, innovation, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required education and experience as follows:

Innovation Manager B: Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of experience or Master's degree and 3-5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Innovation Manager C (Senior Innovation Manager): Bachelor's degree and 7-10 years of experience or Master's degree and 5-7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Preferred experience:

Project management in an academic medical environment
Clinical trial management
Health services research
Healthcare quality improvement
Clinical transformation in a clinical or academic setting
