Job Description

The Missouri School of Journalism and KOMU 8 News, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, Mo., are looking for our next great storytelling editor. This station, owned by the University of Missouri, is the training ground for the best broadcast journalists in the country.

Students produce 33 hours of news a week under the watchful guidance of seasoned television professionals and faculty members. KOMU 8 serves several platforms from traditional newscasts to streaming services, a news app, digital and social media, and a weather app.

We are looking for someone with newsroom experience who can guide students in the storytelling process. This person will have classroom and newsroom responsibilities. The ideal candidate has a desire to work with eager, young journalists and has experience with one, or several, of the following positions: producer, reporter, digital producer, assignment editor, anchor, or videographer. Experience as a newsroom manager is a plus. This position will guide students through every aspect of the TV storytelling process such as pitching stories, interviewing, writing, shooting, editing, and presenting.

KOMU 8 collaborates with its many partners such as The Columbia Missourian, a daily community newspaper, and NPR affiliate KBIA-FM. There is no other place like it in the world!

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, or a related discipline and at least 5 years of experience in reporting, producing, writing and managing staff in a digital journalism environment.
