Assistant Teaching Professor of Comparative Literature and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

The Departments of Comparative Literature (CMLIT) and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at The Pennsylvania State University invite applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position to start Fall 2024. This is a non-tenure-track, 36-week, term position (two academic semesters) with an excellent possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities include teaching introductory and advanced courses for CMLIT, as well as introductory courses for WGSS. This position will include resident and online instruction and normal university service. The teaching load during the academic year is six courses.

A Ph.D. in CMLIT, WGSS, or a related field is required by the effective date of hire. Candidates will be evaluated according to the following criteria: promise and experience as a teacher and a commitment to working with a diverse student body. The ideal candidate will bring a background in both theater and performance studies and gender and sexuality studies, and will combine literary and anthropological approaches in their work. The preferred candidate will show evidence of scholarly commitment to reproductive justice and/or feminist spirituality.

In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
