JOB SUMMARY: Maintains and operates light equipment used in the operation of County road maintenance and construction projects. Performs road maintenance on roads as necessary.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Provide traffic services which includes setting of appropriate sign(s) and traffic control devices per the Manual of Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) in roadway work zones. Provides and locates appropriate sign and traffic devices in work area and routes traffic in road construction work zones. Places and removes traffic counters. Operates light equipment to include power broom, mover and other related equipment. Checks and reports on damage of County roads and road signs. Assists with road striping, drives pilot car, cleans and refills striper as needed. Performs road sign maintenance and installation. Replaces signs; makes signs, cuts posts and attaches signs; installs signs. Provides information to motoring and non-motoring public regarding detours and general road construction. Provides clear and understandable driver guidance to motoring public including operation of pilot vehicle.. Checks and reports on damage of County roads and road signs. Assists with road striping, drives pilot car. Performs other related duties as assigned. Regular and predictable attendance is required.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED: Truck Two Way Radio Hand Tools Power Broom

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED; or, Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job;

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver's License Colorado Department of Transportation or ATSSA Flagger Certificate preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of: Traffic safety/construction work zones. All applicable safety rules and regulations for operation of light construction equipment. Safe use of a variety of hand tools used in the construction/maintenance of roads and road signs.

Skill in: Communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing. Operation, maintenance, and performance of routine repairs of assigned equipment.

Ability to: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to safely operate all assigned equipment.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands: While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, wet or humid conditions, work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is also frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Working time may require irregular hours, on-call status, and/or shift times. The incumbent's working conditions are typically loud to very loud.
