Position Purpose
The Assistant Director of the First-Generation Office ( FGO) at Dartmouth supports first-generation (FG) undergraduate students and fosters connections within the broader FG community. Responsibilities include leading the First-Year Summer Enrichment Program ( FYSEP), coordinating FGO events, advising FG students, conducting assessments, and maintaining FGO's digital presence. The Assistant Director will work closely with the FGO leadership team to help FG students transition successfully into the college, thrive while undergraduates, and graduate from Dartmouth prepared for life beyond commencement.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Five years of relevant work experience connected to the field of education, ideally in secondary schools and/or higher education.
- Demonstrated experience with advising high school or college-age students, both individually and through the facilitation and/or teaching of groups.
- Exceptional oral and written communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to draft reports, presentations, and sensitive correspondence.
- Demonstrated cultural competence; proven effectiveness in serving the needs of a diverse undergraduate student population.
- Demonstrated ability to foster positive and productive relationships with all campus constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni/ae.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising professional and/or student staff.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
- Master's Degree in student affairs, Higher Education Administration, counseling-related discipline, education, or related equivalent.
- Five years of relevant work experience in counseling, advising, and mentoring first generation students.
- Background in developing and managing integrated support services for under-represented and/or marginalized communities.
- Extensive understanding of the lived experience of first generation and low-income students.
- Demonstrated experience in understanding, and operating within, budgets.

Description
Student Support and Enrichment
- Leads year-round planning and execution of the FYSEP Summer Session for first-generation and low-income first-year students under the Director's guidance.
- Trains and manages student leaders, including residential staff and mentors, for the FYSEP program.
- Collaborates with the Director to design and implement inclusive programs offering academic preparation, skill building, mentoring, and ongoing support for first-generation students.
- Coordinates FGO undergraduate events, workshops, social gatherings, and donor visits, including off-campus evening and weekend meetings.
- Supports the Associate Director in Prepare to Launch Programming as appropriate.
- Oversees selection, training, and management of peer-to-peer mentoring programs within FGO.
- Develops and fosters a community for Dartmouth's first-generation students, including overseeing the coordination of a faculty and staff network dedicated to providing mentorship and guidance.
- Supervises 1-3 Student Directors and collaborates closely with the FYSEP Student Coordinator during the summer program.

- Guides and counsels FG students on academic, personal, social, cultural, career, and community matters.
- Monitors student progress and collaborates with other student affairs offices to enhance success opportunities.
- Addresses inquiries and concerns from faculty, colleagues, and students regarding individual student situations.
- Provides dedicated support to students facing personal and academic challenges, collaborating with FGO Director and relevant resources.
- Recognizes and addresses diverse student needs, including disabilities, health, socioeconomic status, immigration status, and citizenship, directing to appropriate offices as required.

Assessment and Communication
- Conducts regular assessments, in collaboration with the program coordinator, to analyze FG population responses to FGO communication and programming trends.
- Manages assessments for the expanded FYSEP Pre-Orientation Program, tracking results throughout students' undergraduate careers.
- Collaborates with Ivy, COFHE peers, and national organizations to implement best practices in student support.
- Attends professional development opportunities, as advised by the Director, to bring back relevant best practice information.
- Maintains FGO website, social media, and digital communications.
- Manages program records and student database.
- Contributes to the creation and updates of an annual report for Student Affairs leadership and Development stewardship.
