HIM Coder or Transcriptionist
This is a part time position with the option for full time work when combined with another posted HIM position.
NATURE OF WORK:
Transcribes medical reports for patient records or provides word processing services to the Medical Staff and hospital personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. May type a variety of assignments in the area of medical transcription, draft copy typing and and composing as required
2. Transcribes either medical information or word processing data.
3. Operates all equipment used for either transcription or word processing with skill.
4. Responsible for proofreading all final copies with accuracy.
5. Produces confidential work and maintain integrity.
6. May at times be required to process, mail and file transcribed reports.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Answer phone inquires from internal and external customers if receptionists are not available.
2. Participate in department quality assessment activities.
3. Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to type 60 words per minute with accuracy, knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of rules for grammar and punctuation, ability to assist originators and use proper telephone etiquette, ability for operating word processing/transcribing equipment, good spelling ability, experience in a word processing center or hospital medical transcription area is preferred.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate required, but post high school education desirable.
LOCATION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Majority of the job tasks are performed within the HIM department. Must be able to to sit 98-100% of the shift dependent upon task assignment. Must be able to use both hands for typing and feet for pedal control of transcription station. Must be able to see computer screen. Must be able to hear adequately.
