Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is currently taking applications for an Associate Vice President. The Associate Vice President of Platform Technologies leads infrastructure and technology efforts, providing platform services to the university. This position is focused on enhancing information technology systems, improving UVU operations, transforming campus services, encouraging the use of institutional data to inform decision-making, increasing customer satisfaction, and refining organizational culture. The AVP engages with students, faculty, staff, and administrators in an integrated enterprise approach to improve workflows, processes, data management, decision-making, technology, and culture. The AVP will oversee infrastructure and platform efforts, develop a culture of continuous improvement and DevOps, integrate applications and share information using APIs, expand the use of cloud services, establish standards, and increase the strategic benefit of IT services and tools.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Strategy: Partner with the VP/CIO and other Digital Transformation leaders to develop the enterprise-wide strategic technology roadmap and design innovative technology strategies for a constantly changing top-tier academic environment. Participate in planning and budgeting processes, bringing a knowledge and vision of technology and systems that positively influences the Digital Transformation division and university plans. Oversee strategic and operational planning and capacity planning for systems and networks. Act as a thought leader on emerging technologies. Promote innovation and implementation of digitally transformative solutions to support key capabilities used by the university's academic and administrative organizations.
- Management: Oversee the short- and long-range direction of technology functions and all technical aspects and technological resources. Lead the teams responsible for the following: Security and Risk Management, Back-End System Development, Enterprise Infrastructure (network, server/storage), Enterprise Services Management, Business Intelligence & Data Platform, and Audio/Video System Engineering. Evaluate performance and provide coaching for team leadership. Promote diversity and foster teamwork, collaboration, and a learning organization. Provide input on development and retention processes for divisional staff.
- Process Improvement: Create and maintain a service model to support UVU and its affiliates. Establish IT standards, policies, and processes to ensure stable and reliable operations. Develop IT security and privacy standards, procedures, and policy to protect information resources and data. Establish metrics and key performance indicators for all operations. Monitor key performance indicators and direct efforts to ensure operational efficiency and continuous alignment with business needs. Deploy solutions targeted at maintaining and improving service delivery. Oversee the development, maintenance, and regular testing of enterprise disaster recovery plans.
- Digital Transformation Partnerships: Maintain relationships with academic, administrative, and executive leadership to understand business strategy and needs. Build and maintain relationships with affiliates, higher education peer groups, industry bodies, start-ups, vendors, and technology analysts to learn and influence the role of information technology within the university. Ensure divisional alignment with clients and partners. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates with a master's degree must have at least five (5) years of professional work experience or a bachelor's with at least seven (7) years of professional work experience, including full-time administrative experience. A degree must be in computer science, information systems/technology, engineering, business administration, or other related field.
