Director of Campus Planning #S_221335
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is seeking a Director of Campus Planning. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance and the Associate Vice Chancellor, University Operations and is responsible for the implementation and update of UNL’s Physical Campus Master Plan and ensuring alignment of the campus physical environment with the university strategic plan. The individual in this position will also be the point person for the Chancellor and Vice Chancellors of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for Physical Campus Planning related items. Further, this individual serves as the liaison to NU for campus planning activities.
This position: • Is the senior person providing campus leadership in physical campus planning and development. • Serves as adviser to the Chancellor and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) regarding campus physical plan development, implementation, and ongoing alignment. • Is the senior individual providing representation in FPC for UNL on behalf of the ELT in capital planning, project reviews or delegates review, and project coordination with planning. • Coordinates Business and Finance leadership planning initiatives and special projects. • Counsel/subject matter expert for planning • Serve as liaison with external entities (i.e. City, NRD, USACE, local groups). • Responsible for directing and coordinating campus groups related to physical development of campus – Aesthetic Review Committee (ARC), Executive Campus Planning Group, Sign Committee, etc. • Supports the N150 Commission2025 Strategic Plan and provides strategic alignment of physical environment within the plan.
Minimum Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in planning, architecture, construction, landscape architecture, horticulture, or related field plus five 5 years of related experience. Experience with project and fiscal management. • Experience collaborating with various units within an organization as well as facilitating planning groups and conducting effective presentations before high level leadership and professional groups. • Must possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of physical environment planning and operations and be able to interpret strategic priorities and overall requirements to align with a master plan. • Possess the ability to synthesize complex issues and recommend solutions to leadership. Experience must demonstrate excellent communication skills, including listening and discernment, and ability to communicate complex information to a variety of audiences. • Ability to coordinate and influence a wide variety of audiences with different agendas, goals, and perspectives. • Must be well organized and able to organize others; able to manage and make progress on multiple projects at any one time without supervision. • Proficient with Microsoft Office software programs. • Ability to identify, access, learn, interpret, follow, explain, and manage all applicable University policies and procedures. • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. • Possess a thorough knowledge of projects, renovations, and other facilities-related processes. • State of Nebraska Professional Landscape Architect, Architect or similar professional license or certificate.
Preferred Qualifications: • Master’s degree with experience in higher education (master’s degree in planning, architecture, construction, landscape architecture, horticulture, or related field, or equivalent years of experience is preferred) Review of applications will begin January 6th, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled.
