Development Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Rewire News Group is seeking a Development Manager with strong experience in grant writing and foundation, VIP, and major donor communications. The ideal candidate has impeccable attention to detail; can manage multiple priorities at once; and is an excellent communicator, collaborator, and coordinator. Experience in nonprofit news fundraising or public media fundraising is a plus.
Fundraising for us is a team effort. The development manager will report to the Vice President of Finance and Operations, and work closely with the President and Editor in Chief who is the primary fundraiser at the organization. The development manager will also coordinate with the Digital Development Specialist to ensure a cohesive approach to annual campaigns and individual donor efforts.
To be successful in this position, the development manager should be able to keep a cool head in a fast-paced, remote environment; keep up with our editorial content and the reproductive health landscape in general; and find opportunities to build fundraising and communications efforts around it.
Core Responsibilities:
- Manage foundation and major donor fundraising efforts-supporting the president and board fundraising committee-while thinking about fundraising holistically;
- Write grant reports, letters of inquiry, applications, VIP emails, and other such donor-facing materials;
- Maintain a calendar of fundraising communications and grant due dates, and take point on all written communications for foundations and major donors, and VIPs;
- Proactively conduct donor research, identify potential new funding sources, produce briefing materials for meetings, and ensure timely documentation and follow-up;
- Work with the digital development specialist to maintain Rewire News Group's fundraising CRM system and ensure the latest foundation and major donor updates are captured and pull reports;
- Coordinate in-person major donor events and annual major donor appeals;
- Contribute to the holistic fundraising strategy and planning;
- Stay on top of Rewire News Group's editorial coverage, as well as news in our space overall to look for opportunities;
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Note: This role is part of a collective bargaining unit, represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, and specific employment terms are subject to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
LOCATION
Rewire News Group is a remote first organization, and therefore candidates for this position must have a home or other location with secure internet access from which to work. Preference will be given to candidates in locations in which current staff operate, with ideal candidates based in either the Washington, DC, or New York City metro areas. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
COMPENSATION
Rewire News Group offers a competitive compensation and benefits package that includes health and dental insurance; flexible spending accounts; 15 paid holidays, 10 vacation days in year one of employment with additional days accrued in year two, and sick leave; 401(k) with employer match after the first year of employment; and employer-paid life insurance, AD&D, STD, and LTD. Salary range: $75-80k, depending on demonstrated experience, skills, and seniority.

QUALIFICATIONS
- At least three years of professional fundraising experience, including grant writing, for a nonprofit organization- with a preference for nonprofit news/public media fundraising;
- Exceptional writing and research skills-you can figure out what matters to a funder, pull a 990, tell a story, etc.;
- Experience coordinating fundraising events-virtual and/or in-person;
- Strong interest in reproductive justice issues and understanding of the importance and impact of media coverage to these issues or willingness to learn;
- Proficiency in CRM systems and/or the ability to learn quickly- Bloomerang preferred;
- Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively -all in a remote environment;
- Sharp attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to adapt to the rapidly changing repro news landscape;
- Willingness to follow and operate within stated Rewire News Group policies and values;
