The Manager works within Experiential Learning and Activities (ELA) – a department of Student Experiences & Engagement (SEE) – to create an innovative environment around food, culture, event-planning, and risk management.
- Facilitates access to and use of a full commercial catering kitchen – The Global Community Kitchen (GCK) – to enhance campus programming through the production of authentic food in alignment with cultural expression.
- Maintains all equipment and ensures safety, sanitation and compliance with all university, city, county, state and federal food regulations for the more than 20k meals served annually through the program, including major events ranging in size from 300-2000 people served.
- Is charged with supervision of a dedicated student team in support of the program and will empower student staff to gain transferable skills which can be utilized in any career path.
- Must be patient, empathetic, and kind while working through language barriers and with students who possess a wide range of culinary skills and experiences.
Through the creation and management of an open and welcoming environment for all users, the GCK Manager generates experiential learning opportunities for different backgrounds to work side-by-side, utilizing communication, collaboration, and teamwork to make users feel safe while utilizing the GCK.
As a student-affairs professional, the Manager must be flexible, adaptable, and innovative in the face of change and serve as an engaged participant in the development of ELA strategic programs, initiatives, structures, and processes.
The Manager will have exceptional interpersonal skills, will be able to work independently with minimal supervision and will approach their work in a proactive and positive manner. As a professional member of the Experiential Learning and Activities team, the Manager serves as a role-model for professionalism and communication and is expected to engage in open, candid and direct communication, be a proactive problem solver, and contribute to a positive work environment.
- Associates degree, vocational, or technical degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two (2) years of full time progressive culinary experience working with large quantity food production and banquet-style food service/catering for large events (300+) in a large commercial restaurant, hotel, or catering business or institution.
- Experience in menu and recipe development and quantification.
- Knowledge in development and execution of events/programs.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check
This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license.
