Examples of Work
Maintain the physical plant with repairs and preventive maintenance. Perform skilled carpentry work in the major renovation and construction of building, structures; constructs, alters, maintains, and repairs buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, screens, furniture and cabinets. Schedules and performs specialized preventative maintenance and repairs for equipment, systems, and machinery to ensure that necessary inspection, adjustment, and replacement of parts. Responsible for supervising inmates working in the maintenance department. Maintain accurate inventory of all stock and commonly used maintenance parts. Maintain accurate tool logs. Maintain an extensive array of tools, and follow all policies and procedures relating to tool control and purchasing of tools, equipment and parts. Responsible for maintenance related purchases and statement reconciliation.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, HVAC, welding, or other maintenance trade and one year of experience OR three years experience in skilled maintenance, construction or mechanical trades and experience leading/directing others in such work; experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
OTHER: Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and be able to work off of ladders and scaffolding. Must have organizational skills and attention to detail and timeliness in completion of all required paperwork.
