This is a part-time, permanent position in a public library, working 20-24 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, without benefits.
This position is under the direction of the Library Director, and in accordance with the City Code.
Under general supervision, the Library Clerk performs clerical services; technical library services in circulation, reference, and processing area; youth and adult programming services; and facility services.
Physical Requirements: The Library Clerk must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds; the ability to push or pull loaded book carts weighing 100 pounds; the ability to use step stools or ladders; the ability to bend, kneel, crawl, reach, balance, stoop, and sit; and the ability ti use the telephone and computer.
Knowledge Requirements: The Library Clerk must be familiar with standard computer functions, and be familiar with basic library practices.
Skill Requirements: The Library Clerk should have experience with standard office equipment and computer programs; experience with smart phones, tablets, and eReaders; the ability to work well with the public; the ability to learn and apply the principles and practices of professional library work; the ability to follow directions; the ability to work with or without supervision; the ability to perform job duties efficiently whole managing frequent interruptions; the ability to communicate clearly and correctly in writing and /or orally, in English.
Availability: The Library Clerk must be available to work Monday through Friday, plus rotating Saturdays. They must have the ability to work day and evening hours; the ability to work an irregular schedule; the ability to substitute shifts with others if necessary; and ability to work 20 to 24 hours per week.
Minimum Experience or Education Requirements: The Library Clerk must have a high school diploma or equivalent. plus two years library, clerical, or similar experience. Experience working with the public is also preferred.
