Seacoast Media Group is seeking a general assignment reporter to cover the beautiful and vibrant Seacoast-region of New Hampshire and southern Maine for its two daily newspapers (Portsmouth Herald and Foster’s Daily Democrat) and websites (Seacoastonline.com and Fosters.com) that are among the leaders for digital subscription growth in Gannett Media.
We are located one hour north of Boston and the beaches of New Hampshire and southern Maine are in our coverage area.
Our ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who hustles after breaking news, has the investigative skills to hold the powerful accountable and is committed to reporting the news fully and fairly. We are seeking a key player to help craft coverage, shift old narratives, plan long-term initiatives and find new ways to engage with our audiences.
Seacoast Media Group reporters are expected to have some photo skills and multimedia storytelling experience is a plus. Reporters are expected to write at least two stories a day plus a weekly enterprise story. Working at night is common and some weekend hours may also be required. The successful candidate will have a passion for community journalism and become a part of the community they cover.

Typical Job Duties
·Creates storytelling that accurately informs, entertains, and engages specific audiences and platforms through the use of metrics.
·Works toward becoming the community's leading voice in the area of expertise.
·Connects with the community through storytelling and outreach (social media, on camera, forums, community leadership, etc.)
·Provides thoughtful analysis of complex issues
·Works with the editor to evaluate metrics, what's working, what's not.
·Collaborate to provide all appropriate elements for stories, such as photos, videos, and graphics.
·Captures basic photos and videos as needed.
·Act as a public ambassador through community outreach and connect with readers through social media, attending community events and building a network between communities and Seacoastonline editors.
·Produce watchdog journalism on challenges facing the vast array of communities here.
·Produce storytelling journalism that meets audience needs and interests on every platform.
·Contribute to the community’s greater good through impactful journalism.
·Exercises individual judgment within standard practices and procedures; can resolve moderately complex problems as they occur. Deals with issues that require review of a variety of factors.
·Researches, reports, and writes news articles for publication.
·Recognizes newsworthy events and trends and understands how to connect with our audience on multiple platforms.
·Understands the standards and ethics around newsgathering and can competently execute most of its primary forms, including source interviews, use of public records, data analysis and primary and secondary source research.
·Can write news stories on deadline with little guidance and basic enterprise pieces with routine guidance from editors.
·Can execute on special projects by working closely with editors.

Required Work Experience, Training, and Education
·Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, or equivalent in experience and education.
·1-3 years of experience as a professional news reporter.
·Must have required skills - social media, advanced storytelling, advanced analytical ability, interpersonal skills, time management, and interpersonal skills.
