Bucks County Courier Times and The Intelligencer, part of the USA Today Network, is seeking a reporter who can transform the traditional education beat into one that focuses on enterprise and watchdog stories that draw loyal readers, especially parents and taxpayers who want to understand what's going on in classrooms and what's driving school board decisions in districts in Bucks County.
The Education reporter will need to keep up on education news and trends, but this beat will focus on a broader variety of topics for people with children from daycare through college. There are hundreds of decisions for parents in this time period – from vaccinations to planning and paying for college and everything in between. This job would cross various areas of the newsroom, so the ability to communicate and work well with others is vital. This is not a feature writing position. We want someone who will give readers an inside look at the issues, and focus on impact and accountability. We also need a reporter who can react and respond quickly to breaking news.
If this is the kind of journalism you want to do, get in touch. We are looking for someone with two to three years of experience and a passion for local news. We are eager to learn more about you and how you fit this role. When you apply, don’t limit your upload to a resume; show us what you’ve done. To do so, put together a single document file that includes the following, in this order:
1. Your resume – one to two pages.
2. A cover letter that outlines how you would approach the job.
3. Links to 3-6 online samples of your work. Show us what you’ve produced or had a hand in that best reflects what you can do in your desired role.
It is important that these items be assembled into a single document and uploaded in PDF format. Completing these steps will ensure that your application receives the highest consideration.
