Job Summary:
The Director of Development and Alumni Relations will support the strategic fundraising efforts of the University by developing and implementing the unit's development activities. The incumbent will report to the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement and have a major focus on acquiring gifts of $10,000 or more and a leading role in identification, cultivation, and solicitation with the most philanthropically capable families and alumni to ensure increasing levels of major gifts, planned gifts, and campaign gifts during campaign years.

The incumbent will report to the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement and have a major focus on acquiring gifts of $10,000 or more and a leading role in identification, cultivation, and solicitation with the most philanthropically capable families and alumni to ensure increasing levels of major gifts, planned gifts, and campaign gifts during campaign years.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Maintain a portfolio of key major gift prospects to be targeted for support.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts donors and prospects including individuals and organizations through face-to-face and other meaningful interactions.
- Interfaces with the Advancement team to plan and execute development strategies to advance the University.
- Prepare persuasive high quality solicitations, proposals, reports and other development-related communications to unit's fundraising activities.
- Work with deans, key faculty and staff to identify funding priorities and align those with grant opportunities that exist.
- Make effective use of the University's prospect management database and other institutional resources to ensure appropriate management of donors, prospects, alumni, and volunteers in coordination with University objectives.
- Coordinate timely and accurate reporting of gift usage and articulate the impact to the donor.
- Identify and solicit philanthropic support for major alumni engagement events (ex. Homecoming, Summer Concert Series, and alumni events during I LOVE COPPIN Week)
- Build relationships with families that have generations of Coppin graduates (i.e. Foundation Merit Scholarship donors)
- Develop a list of 500+ alumni prospects for annual and major gifts to help build strong connections and grow Alumni Association membership.
- Articulate a compelling case for support to all constituents; responsible for collaborating on overall priorities with the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Director of Alumni Engagement
- Assist with other development projects as needed and directed by the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
- Serves as an exemplary advocate of the University in the community with alumni, friends, local leaders, businesses, and other key constituents.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Education:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in either business, marketing, finance, or non-profit management required. A master's degree is preferred.
- At least three years in professional fund raising, sales or another profession that involves preparing professional proposals and working in client service.
- Have demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes.
- Have a demonstrated record of successful solicitation and gift and grant acquisition.
- Have strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills. ·
- Have strong strategic thinking and planning skills.
- Be able to work effectively with a team and with many diverse constituencies in a university environment.
- Have exemplary interpersonal skills and a disposition that will favorably impact sophisticated business leaders and donors.
